The fourth Industrial revolution is already on its way. This time physical objects are being seamlessly integrated into the information network. The Internet is combining with intelligent machines, production systems and processes to form a sophisticated network. IOT is perhaps the most crucial element of Industry 4.0 which refers to the Digital transformation of the processes and systems in the Manufacturing sector. IOT helps integrate digital information from many different sources and locations to drive the physical act of Manufacturing , ie it enables the integration of Information Technology ( IT ) and Operational Technology ( OT) to forge a stronger manufacturing organization. Currently a host of connected technologies are advancing rapidly , including high quality sensors ,more reliable and powerful networks , High performance computing, 3D Printing, Robotics, Advanced analytics and Virtual Reality and Augmented reality technologies. Taken together , these technologies are changing manufacturing in profound ways.

In its pursuit to foster best in class manufacturing infrastructure in India, the " Make in India " initiative is spearheading wider adoption of " Industry 4.0" . Banking on India's strength in IT and a large workforce of IT professionals, the transformative journey of manufacturing through Industry 4.0 has already begun in the country. Under the Government of India's " Smart Cities Mission " the projects to build 100 plus SMART cities across India are being touted as the forerunners of the Industry 4.0 environment.

The concept of Industry 4.0 is going to change the way India manufactures, designs and refurbishes the products. India's manufacturing sector has the potential to touch $1 trillion by 2025 . It is likely that the sector will account for 25 to 30% of the country's GDP and create upto 90 million domestic jobs by 2025. Emerging from the shadow of the services sector , the manufacturing industry can seize more of the global markets, now more than ever

With this background, CII, Tamil Nadu Manufacturing Panel is organizing the 1st Edition of Conference on Industry 4.0 - Join the Industry Revolution on 29th of August 2017 at IIT Madras ( IC & SR ) Campus in Chennai
